Hello
The power of mobile marketing was clearly demonstrated at this year's Academy Awards.
When Ric O'Barry held up his sign during his acceptance speech (for winning best documentary), the awards show's producer cut away quickly. But despite the momentary marketing window, the message was received by millions and, more importantly in terms of any marketer's intention, it was acted on.
Those who sent an SMS received a reply outlining what they could do to help, like petitioning President Obama. (See a 9-second clip on YouTube here: http://bit.ly/byBi5B.)
Focussing on mobile marketing in this month's Fulfilment, here's what you can enjoy:
- Next public workshop in Cape Town: "Wealth and Freedom": By very popular demand after the last running of this half-day workshop in October, we're delighted to present our Wealth and Freedom workshop in Cape Town on Tuesday, May 4th, 2010 at Belmont Conference Centre in Rondebosch. Delegates have described this powerful eye-opening workshop as the turning point in their businesses. See the advert below for details.
- Article: An Intro to Mobile Marketing: Rochelle offers a brief yet thorough overview of what's out there in the mobile marketing space. Small business owners: assume that mobile marketing is only for big business at your own peril!
With the almost ubiquitous distribution of cell phones and their personal nature, mobile marketing is becoming a reliable method of reaching well-defined audiences. Considering the personal nature of the cell phone - compared with TV or billboards for example -- it's possibly more reliable to reach a specific individual.
And unlike struggling to penetrate email's many spam filters and our habituated response to junk mail, a direct SMS is more likely to get read, which is more likely to result in a response to your communication.
Mobile marketing is not only for generating leads. In ProMentor's delivery of 37 workshops in January to March 2010 to about 2,500 participants for Adcock Ingram around Southern Africa on the art and skill of selling, we assured high participation rates by sending SMS reminders to delegates. This helped achieve high attendance and mitigate the lost cost of catering for people who booked but didn't show up.
More important than managing the project's financial risks and efficiencies, though, our SMS reminders reinforced our client's brand by offering another interactive channel (replies were handled).
Of course, the mobile and virtual promise needed to be fulfilled in the real world by a top class experience at the workshop. Given the feedback received, I'm proud to brag that we did exactly this, with special thanks to our facilitators Tania, Lynda and Ronel.
We hope you enjoy the many more ideas and insights into mobile marketing in Rochelle's article!

Wealth & Freedom in Cape Town
Tuesday, May 4th, 2010
Belmont Conference Centre in Rondebosch
A turning point experiential workshop for entrepreneurs and professionals in growing the value of their business
Is your business a great place for you to work? It shouldn't be! It should be a great place to work for only your employees. As the business owner, you should not be there (much).
Join our half-day Wealth and Freedom workshop and discover what it takes to turn your business from being a place to go to work, and work, and work, into a wealth-generating asset that runs just fine without you.
This workshop gives you:
+ a clear view of the capital you need for financial independence (AKA retirement)
+ a formula to quickly estimate almost any business' value
+ find out why increasing revenue is, paradoxically, one of the worst ways of growing business value (and discover many other and often easier ways to make your business more attractive to potential buyers)
+ your business' required value in order to retire financially independent
+ your business' current value and pojected value at retirement (and a wake up call to take action right now to bridge the gap)
+ explore how to become an investor in your business and exit as manager (this is especially applicable to practicing professionals like coaches, psychotherapists, accountants, independent consultants etc. to create freedom and maintain or grow your income)
+ a 20-minute introduction to ProMentor's 6-month Small Business Mentoring Program and 14-month Virtual Boardroom Program for executives in small and medium business (get a special discount on these programs by attending this workshop)
Requirements:
+ Almost all our previous delegates said they would have easily paid triple their fee in a blink, but we thought we'd be kind, so we've only doubled it to R570 including VAT.
+ Payable in advance via EFT or direct debit
+ bring a calculator
To book or enquire:
+ phone Brent (your host): 082 425 2708
+ email brent@promentor.co.za
PS: Special offer: if you pay in full by April 30th for the next Small Business Mentoring Program starting on Wednesday, May 12th, you can attend this workshop at half-price (that's including getting the discount for early full settlement!).
An Intro to Mobile Marketing
By Rochelle Harwin, business owner, brand integration and marketing specialist
31 March 2010
I'm in a meeting with the CEO of a large corporation. We're in fervent discussion about a topic that we're both passionate about and could have wide ramifications for both of our businesses. 'Beep beep,' his cell phone interrupts us and he doesn't hesitate to check it -- instant attention.
There aren't many attention grabbers like this around anymore because we've become immune to the thousands of messages that bombard us every day. Here's a foray into how any business can exploit this next big marketing channel.
