Whether "thank you" carries a secret request for more benevolence to us or it's a genuine state of appreciation, could gratitude - as emotion, expression and action - be the master of all positive emotions?
As the holiday season takes over from the frenzy of what has been ProMentor's most successful year in its six-and-a-bit years, I feel an overwhelming sense of appreciation for everything that's gone right for us in 2009.
Like counting thousands of pebbles, it feels like I could write up an endless list of people and events that have helped us in our journey through this year. With this sense of gratitude, everything, even the problems I know we all have in life, feels like it will all work out OK.
There's also a great sigh of relief in looking both backward and forward: the sense of achievement and deserving that we not only survived, but surpassed our strategic goals for 2009 (despite the world economy tanking) and the comfort (but not complacence!) in the projects contracted for 2010. If this is the pay-off for all our hard work, we might be doing something right, huh!
So if you've been involved in our journey so far - even if you think it's only one-way, like reading our monthly newsletters - I'm delighted that you've come along and this note is simply from all of us at ProMentor to say: Thank you.
Let's enjoy a well-earned rest before tackling what we've planned to be another great year in 2010!
