Here are 5 a-ha points from the introspective exercises and lively conversations at our half-day Improving Motivation workshop held on June 23rd, 2010:
- Investing time to ask ourselves how we engage with others is extremely valuable and gives insight into our motivational drivers.
- Motivation is the inner core of our being and is not seen by others. (It’s good to remind ourselves of the obvious!)
- Behaviour is the outer layer of our being and is seen by others.
- Our behaviour can be misinterpreted and this usually leads to conflict.
Much of the feedback from participants pointed to the value of reflecting on each individual’s motivation. 5.The ability of people to look at the same picture, and interpret and assign meaning in a myriad of ways is what really stood out for me. It gives me hope that ultimately, if our perspectives of our challenges are unlimited, then similarly, we must hold an unlimited number of solutions. The question “What is the solution?” then becomes “Which solution do we choose?”
